The 3.0L Vulcan injectors typically make it to 110,000-140,000 miles before performance degrades. The 3.5L Duratec injectors last longer, often 150,000+ miles on gas-only models. Flex-fuel versions tend to fail earlier, around 100,000-120,000 miles, because ethanol deteriorates internal seals faster. City driving with lots of short trips shortens lifespan. If you're getting lean codes or misfires above 100k miles, test injector flow and spray pattern before assuming it's something else.

Can I replace Taurus injectors myself?

If you've pulled an intake manifold before, this is doable in your driveway. The 3.0L Vulcan requires removing the upper plenum, which is about twelve bolts and some vacuum lines. The 3.5L is tighter but similar difficulty. You'll need a fuel line disconnect tool and injector puller for stuck units. Depressurize the fuel system first by pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the engine until it stalls. Torque specs matter on the fuel rail bolts—over-tighten and you'll crack the plastic rail. What causes injector failure on these V6 engines?

Carbon buildup is the main issue on the 3.0L Vulcan, especially if the PCV system isn't maintained. Clogged injectors throw P0171/P0174 lean codes. The 3.5L Duratec develops internal coil failures that cause dead cylinders—you'll see dedicated misfire codes. Flex-fuel models suffer seal deterioration from ethanol, leading to external leaks at the O-ring. Heat cycling over time cracks solder joints in the injector connector. Run a good fuel system cleaner every oil change and replace the fuel filter at 60k miles to extend injector life.

Why do 2010-2012 models show injector codes but injectors test fine?

Ford issued TSB 11-6-6 for injector harness corrosion on those years. The connectors develop green crusty buildup that interrupts the signal. You'll get random misfires or the engine runs on five cylinders intermittently. Pull each connector and inspect the pins. If you see corrosion, clean with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Don't replace injectors until you've ruled out the harness.
