How long do injectors last on the Silverado 3500 HD 6.0L?

Factory injectors typically last 100,000-150,000 miles on the 6.0L V8. FlexFuel models running E85 regularly see failures closer to 90,000 miles because ethanol is a solvent that strips protective coatings inside the injector. Work trucks that idle constantly for PTO equipment often need injectors by 80,000 miles. If you tow heavy frequently, expect the lower end of that range. The injector O-rings dry out from heat cycling, and the pintle seats develop carbon buildup that prevents proper sealing.

Can I replace Silverado 3500 HD injectors myself?

It's a full day job if you've done intake work before. You're pulling the engine cover, throttle body, fuel rails, and the entire intake manifold. The valve covers come off to access the injector hold-down bolts. You need a fuel pressure gauge, injector puller tool, and new manifold gaskets. The hardest part is cleaning the intake ports without dropping debris into the cylinders. If you've never pulled a manifold, this isn't the place to start. Shop labor runs 6-8 hours at most independent shops.

What causes injector failure on the 6.0L LY6 engine?

Carbon buildup on the pintle tip is the primary killer. These port injection engines spray fuel at the back of the intake valve, and combustion deposits migrate up into the injector bore. Over time, the injector can't close completely and you get fuel dribble. Heat from towing degrades the internal coil windings, increasing resistance until the PCM can't pulse the injector fast enough. The Viton O-rings harden after 100,000 miles and start leaking externally. You'll smell raw fuel in the engine bay before you see drips on the garage floor.

Why does my 3500 HD run rough only when cold?

Cold start enrichment relies on precise fuel delivery. When injectors clog, the spray pattern goes from a fine cone to a stream, and the fuel doesn't atomize properly in cold air. The PCM adds more fuel trying to compensate, which floods the cylinders and fouls the plugs. Once the engine warms up and the intake air heats, the poor spray pattern matters less. Check for P0300 codes stored as pending. Pull the plugs and look for black carbon fouling on one side. That's your clogged injector.
